As a Connecticut criminal law attorney for more than 25 years, I have served as both a prosecutor and criminal defense attorney. Through my firm, The Law Offices of John T. Walkley, I have helped thousands of people - on both sides of the law and in state and federal courts - with charges, such as DUI, fraud, drug crime, juvenile law, shoplifting, burglary and larceny, as well as many other crimes.
My main goal as a criminal defense attorney today is to protect the rights of the accused, while I work to minimize the penalties a person must suffer for his or her mistakes. One example of my dedication is that I have argued more death penalty cases to completion than any other Connecticut lawyer. To achieve this objective, I advocate aggressively for my clients, no matter where they are in the criminal process, using all of the tools I have learned throughout my many years of litigation experience in the Connecticut criminal justice system.
I have handled the full spectrum of state and federal crimes in Connecticut criminal courts, but some of the main crimes I defend include:
- DUI/DWI - Drunk driving penalties are swift and harsh, so I handle all types and stages of DUI or DWI charges.
- Fraud - I handle fraud cases that are a type of larceny, like embezzlement, check fraud or credit card fraud.
- Drug crime - While jail may be a likely outcome for either state or federal drug charges, I will work to find the best resolution for your unique set of circumstances.
- Juvenile law - If your juvenile commits a crime, I work to try to avoid a permanent criminal record that could follow him or her for life.
- Shoplifting, burglary and larceny - Any crimes of theft or breaking and entering can directly impact your permanent criminal record and could lead to jail time.
I am committed to helping you by either working with criminal prosecutors to reduce any penalties, if you choose to plea bargain, or by taking your case all the way through a jury trial, if needed.
