A 29-year-old New London woman was recently sentenced for her involvement in a drug trafficking ring based in Connecticut.
Sources said the woman was convicted of assisting in a cocaine distribution ring. Her role in the operation was to distribute eight-ounce quantities of crack, known as "eight balls," for distribution to her customers and to facilitate other sales for her partner, who was her immediate supervisor in the drug ring.
Much of the activity took place out of a home on Federal Street in New London, a residence which the convicted women shared with her sister.
Police made use of court-authorized wiretaps, controlled buys of cocaine and crack cocaine, as well as surveillance in its investigation of the woman's activity. During the investigation, officers found that the woman's drug ring partner, with whom she closely worked, was involved in distributing cocaine, crack cocaine, oxycodone and marijuana throughout southeastern Connecticut.
According to sources, the woman pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute five grams or more of crack cocaine. As part of her sentence, she will be serving four months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised released, the first nine months of which are to be spent in home confinement with electronic monitoring.
Her partner was found guilty of six counts of possession with intent to distribute and distribution of crack cocaine and cocaine. For that conviction, he was sentenced to 66 months in prison. The woman's sister pleaded guilty to her involvement in the activity, and was sentenced to three months in prison.
Another member of the ring has pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine, 50 grams or more of cocaine base and a quantity of marijuana and oxycodone. He was sentenced to 135 months in prison.
