Early, Wednesday morning, a 35-year-old man was arrested after police found parts of a dismembered body inside the man's home, later identified as the body of a missing 8-year-old Brooklyn boy.
The grisly murder reportedly took place after the young Brooklyn boy went missing on Monday morning while walking home from a day camp. Sources said he was supposed to meet his mother in Orthodox Jewish neighborhood of Borough Park. Police and a volunteer search crew intensely searched for the boy until Wednesday morning, when they found the boy's body inside the suspect's home.
Detectives reportedly tracked the suspect by using a surveillance video showing him approaching the lost boy. The video reportedly showed the boy wearing his backpack and walking down the street while a man walked near him. Police were able to identify the man when they noticed him going into a nearby dentist's office, where he was found to have paid off a bill.
When detectives came to the man's home, he directed them to his refrigerator, where they found blood on the freezer door, bloody knives, a cutting board, and the boy's dismembered body inside. Some of the boy's members were also found inside a red suitcase which had been placed in a suitcase and thrown in a trash bin in a nearby Brooklyn neighborhood.
According to Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly, the murder suspect made statements that implicated himself in the boy's murder.
Sources didn't indicate the mental status of the suspect, but did say that the only item on his criminal record was a citation for urinating in public.
